Half Hour With Roshanay Khan
We hear you moved to Pakistan all the way from the States?
I’m a full-time model from California now in Karachi. I’ve had the chance to work with Pakistan’s most creative and talented designers and be featured in commercial campaigns.
Tell us about yourself?
Born in Amsterdam, raised in Connecticut, and studied in Los Angeles, California. Coming to Pakistan was rediscovering my roots. When free, I attend beauty conventions, travel, and blog – my portal is about beauty, skincare, and fun events in LA and all over the world.
The modelling and blogging world is so competitive. How does one stay relevant?
I constantly learn and challenge myself by reading, writing, attending trade shows or even simply walking through a bazaar to see what new things spark my interest. I travel a lot for my work so am able to cover a lot more events happening internationally.
What would you have done differently if you knew what you know now?
Not held myself back as much as I did or listened to doubt. If you want to do something, then do it.
Your biggest influences? Who or what inspired you to do what you do now?
I grew up in Amsterdam’s fashion industry. My earliest memories of my father are of him taking me to buy
merchandise and to attend fashion shows.
Best advice for handling criticism?
I value criticism, in my field – it is as important for me to listen, as it is to lead. Though once I’ve picked a path, I don’t let others deter me. Listen, learn from your mistakes and move on.
What are your future plans? Do you see yourself in the field of acting?
I’m passionate about modelling, mastering my craft and being the best in my field, regardless of what I’m doing. I
don’t consider modelling a stepping stone to acting. Though I am fascinated by our booming film industry.
What is your beauty routine? What do you do to stay in shape?
I have a 10-step skincare routine every morning and night which is like my daily meditation. I wear SPF 50 sunscreen every single day, drink lots of water for my skin and my waistline, eat lots of veggies and fruits and stay away from dairy since I’m lactose intolerant.
What is your go-to outfit?
Black skinny jeans from Topshop, a black t-shirt, my black Gucci loafers and a sweater/cardigan tied around my
Three things in your bucket list
Hajj, Japan during Sakura season and to walk the runway for Chanel.
A film that has stayed with you?
Disney movies mostly, they contain childhood nostalgia and memories of my brother and I growing up.
Your biggest fear?
Not reaching the goals I have set out for myself.
Every thought and action you put out into the universe will reflect back on you. Be happy, be good and be kind to
everyone and yourself.
Your goal in life?
To live a happy, dignified and fulfilled life.
