THE LOOKS WE LOVED FROM THE 68TH PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS
The Primetime Emmy Awards brought out the best in both television and fashion. From gilded gowns covered in intricate embroideries to sleek column dresses in daring, head-turing colours, see what Hollywood wore for TV’s biggest night.
Emmy Rossum in Wes Gordon and J Mendel
The queen of preppy dressing turned heads in a plunging white gown with thigh-high split by Wes Gordon, but it’s her after-party look that made our hearts skip a beat. She ditched her minimalist dress, Brian Atwood shoes, and Fred Leighton jewels for a gold off-the-shoulder embroidered J. Mendel number with a pleated skirt and ankle-strap black sandals. We die!
Sarah Paulson in Prada
It was the American Horror Story star’s night and she dressed to win in glitzy Prada. We cherish the nod to our beloved Dynasty.
Padma Laxmi in Naeem Khan
The Top Chef host looked glorious in a shimmery, curve hugging number designed by Naeem Khan. As for that fuchsia lip: beyond.
Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta
Clad in a plunging green “clover” dress from Oscar de la Renta’s Resort’ 17 collection, Fey looked super foxy and matched with BFF, Amy Poehler. Talk about #friendshipgoals.
Sarah Hyland in Monique Lhuillier
Hyland, who plays Haley Dumphy in comedy smash Modern Family, took a fashion risk and nailed it. Instead of wearing a traditional gown on the red carpet, the starlet made our jaws drop as she stepped out in a floor-length Monique Lhuillier strapless top that opened up to show off her toned legs and sleek black trousers. And that embroidered floral detailing along the bodice: ah-mazing!
Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta
Sure, the Downton star’s floral cloqué tiered dress by Oscar de la Renta may seem a bit over-the-top, but if Lady Mary Crawley can’t work a little fussiness, than who can? We’re in love with its dramatic, cascading flounces as well as the silk faille belt. Stuart Weitzmen ‘Nudist’ sandals and Harry Winston bling and gorge fuchsia lippy completed the look.
Shiri Appleby in DVF
STUNNING! Appleby literally sparkled in this electric blue frock. Smartly keeping her make-up and jewellery to a minimum, the new mum opted for light pink gloss and dangling earrings. And can we take a second to talk about her body? It’s simply UnReal!
Maisie Williams in Markus Lupfer
It was a huge night for the Brit actress –her show Game of Thrones was up for 24 awards and walked away with 12, breaking the record for the most decorated TV show in Emmy history. The teen tasked Markus Lupfer with the job of creating a gown for her moment in the sun. Looking lovely in a tea-length floral dress, with a mod- topknot and bangs, Williams proudly dangled an adorable velvet satchel by Charles and Keith. And get that: it retails for a mere $30.
Kristin Bell in Zuhair Murad
While far from the most high fashion moment of the Emmy’s, Kristen Bell’s Zuhair Murad dress is so plainly pretty that it makes us toss all good sense out of the window. The Veronica Mars actress’ sleeveless number, that featured a deep plunging V-neck, graphic printed leaves and billowing skirt is a fairy-tale come to life.
Jane Krakowski in Bibhu Mohapatra
On a night where women weren’t afraid of playing with colour, this dress still managed to stand out. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star (and one of our favourite funny ladies) made sure that she got her share of attention in a stunning Bibhu Mohapatra Organza and Pearl Gown paired with Chopard jewels and Louboutin sandals.
Ellie Kemper in Jenny Packham
The longer we look at this yellow embellished dress by the Duchess of Cambridge’s go-to- designer, the more we think that it’s a tricky look to pull off. Between the color, the unusual fabric and Kemper’s fair colouring we would never have thought that the gown would have worked this well. But it did, and how! Now if only our favourite Duchess would take a page out of Ellie’s book….
America Ferrera in Jenny Packham
Wowza! Putting all thoughts of Ugly Betty firmly in the past, America stunned In a sparkly midnight blue gown by Jenny Packham, worn with a matching clutch, Kurt Geiger shoes and statement-making red earrings. She’s never looked better.
Angela Basset in Christian Siriano
Without a doubt, Project Runway alum Christian Siriano was The Emmy’s biggest fashion winner. The designer dressed nine women of a spectrum of ages and shapes, but it was Angela Bassett’s custom chartreuse gown that really stood out. The design may be relatively simple, but it creates a strong impact. The bold jewelry and Rene Caovilla silver knotted sandals were also the right way to go.
